That’s One Way To Look At It
Just as a chef can smell and taste each individual ingredient in a prepared dish, or how a sound engineer can tell from the very first beat, what kind of speakers are projecting the sound, I don’t just notice when something is appealing to look at, but I ‘see it as a photo.’ And what I mean by that, is I am always on the lookout for something that catches my eye, but then I take it a step further, and see how I can capture what’s already visually inviting and bring to light a specific detail that creates intrigue and curiosity.
I have always paid close attention to detail, and in those details, I like to look for the unexpected. Like the individual ridges of the petal of a flower, or the way a shadow is created by the light that surrounds it, and then I look for the hidden details, within the shadow.
Photography allows me to explore, imagine and challenge myself to find the details that may have gone unnoticed. I enjoy the challenge of looking for “that missing piece” when I see something obviously eye catching. What else can I find? What details can I emphasize?
All forms of art tell a story. Looking through the lens of a camera is how I tell mine.
